„Durst wird durch Bier erst schön“

“Thirst is nice only if accompanied by a beer”

Belschnickel Brewery is an independent, family-run nano brewery in Hull, East Yorkshire. We are a small husband-wife-pup brewing team.

Head brewer & co-founder Kevin is originally from Stuttgart, Germany and co-founder Rachel originates from Bridlington. We met in Berlin after a gig in 2016, with Cash joining our family in 2020.

Our beer brewing journey began in 2018 after coming across a second-hand brewing book whilst living in Berlin. Following a move to Glasgow in 2019 we began home-brewing in our kitchen eventually upgrading to a garage in 2020. Following an intensive period of Covid-homebrewing and experimentation, we decided to take the plunge and realise a dream after moving to our home in Hull in 2021.

We currently brew small batch beers from a converted outbuilding at the end of our garden on a 50L Speidel Braumeister. We brew, fill, can and label all our beers on site by hand. We currently have a range of three core beers, which we plan to continue to add to, and we will have various seasonal beers released across the year. We also produce beers for ageing which are bottled in 750ml champagne bottles, with each batch only producing a small number of bottles. All our branding and labels are designed by amazing local designer, Joseph Cox.

Whilst we love to drink beer, we also love the history and stories behind the creation of a beer, and this is something we strive to reflect in our beers. Our philosophy is to brew beers which respect the history, tradition and cultural significance of the beer style, and we try our best to let the malt, hops and yeast do the talking.

What is Belschnickel?

Belschnickel, also known as Pelznickel is one of Germany’s lesser known Weihnachtsmänner. He is the slightly sinister fur-clad Santa Claus of the forested areas of Baden-Wüttemberg in south-western Germany who carries presents but also a whip and cluster of branches. The tradition was transported to the US with early immigrants in particular to Pennsylvania. He made his fame outside of Germany by his portrayal in the US Office series by Dwight Schrute in the episode “Dwight Christmas”.
